PathKEY uses the RIASEC framework as a structured approach to vocational interests. Developed through the work of John Holland, RIASEC describes six broad interest orientations — Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional — and has been extensively applied in career exploration and occupational research. O*NET also uses RIASEC as the basis of its vocational interest model and publishes RIASEC profiles for occupations.
The Big Five is a widely researched framework for describing broad patterns of personality across five dimensions: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism / Emotional Stability. PathKEY uses Big Five results as one structured behavioral perspective within its broader methodology.
An important distinction: the scientific foundation of the Big Five model and the psychometric validation of the specific Big Five question set used inside PathKEY are not the same claim. The references below relate to framework research; PathKEY implementation documentation will be published separately as it becomes available.
PathKEY uses selected Human Design for Business principles as a complementary, non-self-reported perspective on natural tendencies in professional contexts. Human Design does not have the same scientific evidence base as RIASEC or the Big Five and is not presented by Alignment Key as a scientifically validated psychological assessment.
